FITNESS

Individuals with learning and social challenges often struggle with relationships, time management, appropriate classroom behavior, self-care, and planning for the future. All of these executive functioning challenges negatively impact their ability to learn.

Research indicates that exercise serves to build stamina, increase attentiveness, develop coordination skills, and suppress anxiety. Our experience has shown that the therapeutic benefits of physical activity support student growth in the classroom. The underlying philosophy is that if fitness class can be used to instruct kids on how to monitor and maintain their own health and fitness, then the lessons they learn will serve them for life.

Every day, our community participates in Fit Club. Fit Club equips our students with fitness skills and the social readiness needed to participate in exercise options offered in local gyms. Students participate in team sports, running, weight lifting, balance, and aerobic activities to develop healthy daily patterns of fitness that will carry into adulthood.

There is no argument that exercising is important to living a long and healthy life. Fit Club helps our students focus faster and for longer periods of time, affording them the opportunity to be actively engaged within their learning community.
